Didn't get the chance for the collar to melt.
It worked 2 or 3 times before the trigger wouldn't function correctly. The only way to get mine to heat is to put hard pressure on the trigger after turning it to on. If I let go, the led turns red and starts to cool down. Like everyone else all my other Milwaukee tools generally work like expected, if not better.

Love this tool
Airfield maintenance, automotive repair and field electronics repair. No need to stock butane on my truck. That by the Way has exploded in the heat. Very fast start up time. No AC outlet no problem

Love it but falling apart!!
I'm having the same problem a week after I purchased the soldering iron the tip started melting luckily it hasn't melted enough to fall off but every time I need to tighten the tip down I can't because it just spins I ended up super gluing it to keep it and tell they came out with a repair or something

Another melted collar
You'd think after so many people have the same problem with the collar melting, that Milwaukee would redesign it to be more resistant to melting. And make it a serviceable part as it is removable. Other than that it was a great 12v soldering iron.

Must have for LED tape light installation
I work in estate homes. This is the best soldering iron I have used. I work in tight spaces and on tall ceilings. Love not having an extention cord 15' in the air. Because I use Flux to clean, and make my connections. I have yet to replace the top. I purchased mine 2 years ago.

I would recommend only buy it with the case. This way it protects the iron. Plus I only use a 3.0 m12 battery or larger. This way I can have it standing to mark so of the more chall connections.

Great product for field work
I am a field electrician for a helicopter company and this is perfect for soldering applications where we can't get an extension cord to our work area. I would like to see at least solder, and a sponge in the kit though. I still recommend this kit for anyone who needs a soldering iron outside or in a field environment.
