I'm in maintenance, I bought this light and loved it for the first month, everyone in the shop wanted one but then it started switching off a few seconds after you turn it on. I use this light when I'm working in electrical panels and in tight spaces , if milwaukee can help me with this I'll gladly write a new review.
Bought this light to complement my collection of LED worklights. Brand new and out of the box. This unit turns off after a few seconds. After reading a few reviews and trying a few new pairs of batteries, I'm convinced this seems to be a common issue with the Rover 300 and a flaw in the production. Truthfully, I expected a much better product from Milwaukee as I own quite a collection of this brand of tools. I'm let down and out of 35 dollars.
I bought 2 of these lights from 2 different retailers. Each light suffers from the same problem that is mentioned here. The lights regardless of new batteries will light up for 5ish seconds and then shut off. I love the magnets they were wonderful for the short time they worked.
The light is very bright and compact with a strong magnet which makes it very useful for working in tight spaces. My only complaint is that it seems to have a very short battery life - I guess that bright light has a cost. After only a few brief uses the light now turns off by itself within a few seconds. Very irritating. According to another review, this may be due to the battery becoming weak. This model does not have rechargeable batteries so it looks like I'll be using up quite a few alkaline batteries. The rechargeable version may be a better buy.
At 300 lumens this is plenty bright for task lighting and having a low setting is very helpful to extend the two AA batteries. I get at least 16 hours out generic AA batts. Great news is they did not skimp on the magnets, they hold the light solid. With so many great features (that you come to expect from Milwaukee) I just wonder how the battery cap ever passed their quality control. The tiny indents to lock the cap are useless. The littlest bump or drop and the cap will go flying. I resorted to sticking a bit of Gorilla tape on it to hold it in place. At the premium price paid it is not up to task. If you have a solution for the cap to fix this deficiency please email me.
Like many others on this page, after a few seconds of turning the light on, it shuts itself off. I'm going to try the new battery fix to see if that helps. What a pain though. It seems like it's going to work, then just as you attach it to something above your work area it shuts off. very annoying. I was ready to throw it against a wall. It would be better if it didn't turn on at all when the batteries are low.
Little light sure puts out a lot of light-USE OEM Batteries!!
I purchased this as have been using it a few hours a day at work. The magnets work great, but the one on the cap end is far stronger. I wish the one on the long end (backside) was stronger, but it holds in place perfectly on light gauge steel. I have been using it while rewiring light fixtures to LED bulbs and it lights everything up far more than my LED maglight which I have to have in the ladder pointing up. This one sticks where you want.
One thing to note... BATTERY CHOICE is critical. I have already used it with Energizer Industrial, Eneloop rechargeable (2000mah ones), Duracell 2500mah rechargeable, and the Rayovac High Energy that it came with. With the Rayovac, the voltage must be slightly higher because the LEDs in the light are FAR BRIGHTER on high mode than any of the other batteries I have used. In fact with the others, there is little noticeable difference between high and low modes, but with the Rayovac batteries, you cannot even look at the LED's on high, and there is a very noticeable difference between the high and low modes.
So not only the light gets 5 stars, but the batteries do as well, because they provide more voltage and work so well with the light. (as a plus they are super cheap compared to Energizer and Duracell batteries.)
After using this light a few times over a couple of weeks it went to shutting off a few seconds after turning it on. First time I’ve ever been disappointed over a Milwaukee tool. I see here in Reviews that others have had this problem too. I had purchased one for each of my son’s next birthdays and was about to take them back but thought of something - maybe this is the device’s way of telling me that the batteries are getting low. I put new batteries in and the thing is working like new. So at least for now, we still have a present for each of the boy’s upcoming birthday. Thanks Milwaukee for awesome tools!
Surprisingly bright for its size. Very handy when you need light in a tight little area. Magnets hold its weight well. Emits a quiet high-pitched whine, only noticeable if it is very quiet in the area where you are very close to it. I use rechargeable batteries (eneloop) in it and they work well, but there is rarely any difference between the low and high settings--not that it really matters, lots of light in a dark space is good! I would definitely buy it again, wish I had long ago.
This light is absolutely perfect in its size and functionality. Great light output on high mode, magnets actually work this time, rides very well clipped into the pocket - I had very high hopes for this light (I almost - almost - could make my peace with the outrageous $30 price tag!. That is why I am so disappointed in Milwaukee for the fact that the battery cap pops off with the slightest bump or twist, or rotation of the clip. Rotate the clip too far around (away from the power button), and the clip pushes on the cap, and off it comes. Wearing gloves while trying to adjust the belt clip? Better catch the cap before it falls down a vent or somewhere you’ll never find it. Then you’ll have a useless $30 piece of junk. This cap should have been attached with THREADS (like every other reliable flashlight!), not a 1/8 turn pop-top mechanism. This asinine feature makes this light no better than a $5 throw-away light. Also, there virtually no discernible difference between the High and Low modes. Low is just as bright as High (but is supposed to be 2/3 fewer lumens).
Milwaukee needs to put their products into customers’ hands and get bona fide user feedback (not their own developers’ input) before mass producing flawed products.
I have had this light for one day, and it will be quickly going back from whence it came. Thanks for wasting my time with this one, Milwaukee!
