Great job Hitachi! Auto feature not just a gimmick.
Recommended to anyone looking for a professional grade jigsaw.
Pros: Very smooth and powerful. The auto feature is very nice as it saves you from having to increase speed manually and allowing you to slow-start a cut. The body is nice and compact and i found it very easy to keep the saw balanced and the weight down and against the workpiece. The collection of blades included is extensive and seem at least on par with the Bosch t-shank blades (my favorite so far). So far my main use of this saw has been in 3/4 plywood (cabinet grade) and doug fir timbers. It has handled both with equal ease and in the case of the thick timbers i encountered 0 deflection.
I am a professional carpenter and have used corded and cordless models from most higher grade brands (yes that includes the festool carvex). This saw easily ranks on par (if not higher) with both of my Boschs (which i love still) and definitely outclasses the Makita, Milwaukee and Dewalt. If you've used the festool (especially with their scrolling blade) then you know there's little comparison in cut deflection reduction, power, etc. But the Hitachi doesnt lock you into proprietary blades.

Cons: the no-mar shoe is a little lose unless you keep good contact and pressure with your workpiece. My Bosch 7amp barrel grip has a shoe that snaps on and stays on but the hitachi feels like it could fall off. The chip guard and splinter shield come off and on easily enough but provide no real innovation (that i have seen so far) and do work but obscure your line of sight ( like every other brand, so they at least arent worse than anyone else). Also, i really like the compact size (for a 7amp) and the body style is easy on the hands. However, dont be fooled by the stock photo of the "carpenter" holding this thing. I dont have especially big hands for being in my trade and even i have trouble fitting my hand under the d-grip to use barrel style when i have the trigger locked. Depending on how you like to use your saw this might be a consideration for you. Or you might consider the barrel model.
