Sometimes when you squeeze the trigger the response is near (but never truly) instantaneous, maybe 1/10 second lag. Other times, you squeeze the trigger and there is a nearly one second lag before the driver starts. So 20+ times a day I'm going, "WT... Metabo" before it finally kicks on and does what I paid for it to do. Other times, when trying to feather the trigger lightly, it will stop and need to release the trigger completely and repress it for it to spin again.
The battery locks aren't great. If you break one of the two tabs off the battery it will never stay put during downward facing use -will vibrate loose, but will still require multiple smacks to release it fully. Even with two tabs intact it happens occasionally. Batteries are held in primarily by friction with the actual release mechanism doing very little.
And these belt clips!! Every 6-8 months of regular use they break in half. Same with the last model, they've been flawed in design for years! They're cheap carbon steel with enough flex to move, but then when they move they get stress fractures and break. They need to be either flexible and not break with repeated flexing, or stiff. The current metallurgy is junk. And what good is an impact if I have to set it down after every use and hunt for it when I need it next? Replacement parts are difficult to find and not cheap, considering how cheap the metal is.
All in all, it's a decent tool, but 4 stars would be a bit of a stretch even. Now that other brands have taken production out of China I may go to a different brand for my next set of tools and see if I find myself frustrated less often.
