Makita Electric Works, a Japanese company founded in 1915, first began as a vendor and service provider for electric equipment. Following the success of exporting electric motors and generators, Makita began manufacturing tools and in 1958 was the first company in Japan to manufacture and sell electric planers.
A year later Makita transitioned into an electric power tool manufacturer.
