Product Overview

Details

The Makita 18V X2 (36V) LXT Brushless 6-1/2 in. Plunge Circular Saw Kit delivers precise and more accurate cutting when combined with an optional guide rail system (sold separately). The saw and rail system work together to produce accurate cuts with minimal tear-out. The saw combines a powerful Makita-built brushless motor powered by two 18V LXT batteries with Automatic Speed Change Technology, which adjusts cutting speed and torque during the cut for optimum performance. The Saw has a variable speed control dial (2,500 – 6,300 RPM), with soft start and an electric brake for added convenience. It has a large 2-3/16 in. cutting capacity at 90 degrees, with a bevel capability of -1 - 48 degrees and positive stops at 22.5 and 45 degrees. When used with a rail system the Plunge Circular Saw is a more portable option to a table saw for select applications, and is ideal for use on the job site or in a workshop. The kit includes two 18V LXT 5.0 Ah batteries, and each reach a full charge in only 45 minutes on the efficient Rapid Optimum Charger – the fastest charge-time in the category – for less downtime and increased productivity. For added convenience, the batteries feature an integrated LED battery charge level indicator.

Great tool!!
I have several Festool items including the TS 75, the table, dust extractor, and sander from a few years ago and I love them all. However, the TS 75 is corded and pretty clunky/oversized for my most common use of cutting plywood. I got this Makita saw after finding out that they work on the Festool system. That includes the systaners, the tracks, the dust extractor, and the table. I was considering the TS 55 but I ultimately went with this one to save the money and I already have several Makita LXT items that are all great quality. I was really impressed at how well this cordless model performed. It didn’t bog down or show any signs of letting up when cutting 1” think MDF. I haven’t actually used my TS 75 since I got the Makita saw. I like the size, lighter weight, performance, precision, and dust extraction on it. The only issue so far is that the saw doesn’t plug in so you need to turn on the dust extractor manually. I do miss that. Otherwise, this is a great saw and I’m very pleased with the saw!

Pros
-Above mentioned Festool system compatibility
-Cost relative to the Festool
-LXT cordless technology and expansive platform of other great tools by Makita
-Build quality, as good as the Festool but about half the cost
-includes a 2 bay charger

Cons
-Doesn’t automatically turn on the dust extractor.
-Nothing really about this saw but I wish Makita also offered a plunge saw with a larger blade.
-I wish this included 2 more batteries for the same price ?

Best on the market!
I bought this saw and love it! I got the 55" guide rail and the cuts are smoother than when I bought the wood! One of the best saws on the market and there is nothing better than using the batteries for my other Makita tools! I highly recommend this saw!!!

excellent tool
I'm a custom home builder and use this extensively for breaking down sheet goods and doing taper cuts, short and long, on everything from door casings to framing to architectural grade plwood. Buy 3 of the 55" tracks for versatility and production work. The Festool track connector is the way to go, you need 2 to connect two tracks. Works on the Festool tracks but the blade offset is a little different than my Festool. I find myself reaching past my Festool and grabbing this saw. Excellent tool.

Amazing Tool
This tool is a bit lighter than my Festool corded track saw. It cuts fast and the cut is chip free. I tried it cutting with the grain and across the grain with the smoothest cuts I have ever seen. I haven't tried the Festool cordless track saw yet but I can't see how it could be any better than the Makita. I got the package that included the free track and 2 extra batteries. the price was less than half what a similar equipped Festool would cost.

If I had to choose between my corded Festool and the Makita cordless track saw, I would keep the Makita

Battery is to close to the handle and if you are left handed very uncomfortable to hold the saw. I did not like tow battery system at all.

Great design, clean and accurate cuts
This is a great rail saw, and it beat the heck out of my home-made jigs. My only complaint is the depth stop is in centimeters instead of inches. After setting up saw up according to the instructions, be sure and check the rail guide adjustments again after cutting your first pieces. You can buy a dust bag for this tool, Makita part 122562-9, but they are hard to find state-side (got mine from an ebayer in Alaska). I also plan on buying one of Makita's chain saws that use the same batteries.

BEST ANSWER: The main tool came with two batteries. I bought the guide rail and that accessory package also had two batteries.
