Need 2 sets!
I’m a reasonably smart, technically oriented craftsman, and I take pride in my ability to figure things out. Apparently this only applies to complex assemblies, because I had to call Makita to figure out that these 2 pieces are designed to be used in one of the slots of the guide rail. The flat piece with a hole in one end is the backer so the set screws for the front piece don’t eventually carve up the aluminum. (I figured that part out all by myself!). YOU NEED 2 SETS TO PROPERLY JOIN GUIDE RAILS TOGETHER! Once the operator at Makita told me this, I thought I remembered seeing it in some info, somewhere. But it was not in the ordering info at CPO ??

Work great but expensive.
Easy to use. Can be stored in the slot when not being used. The slot on top of the track is the same as the track on the bottom. I purchased an additional connector and use 2 when connect 2 tracks together. It helped alignment. The cost is kind of high.

Works as it should
It works as advertised but it's cheaper to buy Festool rail connectors. They fit and in my experience they work just as well as Makita rail connectors. These connectors have two pieces that are pushed apart inside the slot to hold the rails together so they do not mark the rail (Festool connectors make marks). All you gotta do is keep track of the allen wrench and you're all set. I would give it 5 stars if Makita changed the screws so a screwdriver was needed instead of an allen wrench.

I thought it was a set of two....
The Good: Connects 2 Makita 55" rails to rip an 8' sheet of birch plywood with minimal chip-out. 2 of the 55" rail are cheaper than one 112" rail, plus I got the Makita SP6000J1 that came with a 55" guide rail, so getting this and one more 55" rail was the way to go for me.
The Bad: I did not closely look at the picture, nor read the description. I knew 2 were needed, I thought it was a set of two looking at the picture. When I got it and saw only one, but was a two part connector to slip in one groove, I was a little unnerved. My bad for not looking into the details, but I did learn something...
The Ugly: Makita Advertises the rail and connectors are compatible with the Festool system. Instead of ordering another Makita connector, I went to my local Festool dealer and bought one Festool 482107 Connector for FS/2 Guide Rail. not only is it cheaper, but fits better, easier, and requires a flat head screw driver instead of fishing for allen keys like the Makita one does. The Festool connector is only $17.00 here, a single bar, (no need to line up two pieces), and a better fit. I paid almost $30 for one Makita connector, you can get two Festool 482107 for $34.00. Wish I looked into that before I bought the Makita connector, I just assumed the Festool connectors were more expensive, and at the time unsure of their fit on the Makita rail.
