It has made my life of sanding a thing of the past.

Great for a small project
I'm a DIYer, and used this to prepare a subfloor for laying tile in a small 6 x 10 space (laundry room). Worked great at smoothing out mortar and removing adhesive left from peel and stick tile. In general, other reviews seem right on.

Pluses: Smooth operation (little vibration). Quieter than expected, but I still wore hearing protection. The form factor allows getting close to wall, which is nice.

Cons: Kind of heavy. Dust collection is ok but bag fills up quickly. Still generated a bit of dust in our house. Biggest con is price compared to other competitors.

Would still buy again. Feels like a quality tool.

Professional cabinet construction and installation
Very pleased with this tool. Our old work horse sander finally succumbed after 10 years of nearly everyday use. We were hoping to find a replacement we liked as much as our old Bosch sander which they quit making. This unit has many of the same features we require with the exception of the front handle. This Makita has a front knob to hold, which is fine when sanding flat horizontal. But we use the sander in a vertical hold position as we scribe cabinets and countertops one handed for installation.
Otherwise we are very happy with the power, design and easy belt change features.

Describe Yourself:
Not well designed
This tool is a professional's temporary fall back. Of serious concern is the engineering. For instance, the belt drive-roller is attached to the drive shaft using a left threaded nut prone to stripping under heavy load. Once stripped there is no easy fix and your shop is in the lurch. The bill for reconstruction using makita parts was 65 USD including shipping. We have switched to the Porter Cable 4 x 24.

Workhorse with great features
Highly recommended if you need a real workhorse with well engineered features. A little heavy but weight is needed for a big project like a floor that is too small for a floor sander.

Good belt sander, easy to use
This belt sander has worked well for me so far. The belt is extremely easy to change, and the dust collection bag actually works pretty well. No issues so far.

Quality, Dependability, and Great Features
Decided to use it on a couple projects before writing review. Extra long cord is Extra handy. Good power to weight ratio, very balanced, does not skip or bounce around when using . Easy empty sawdust bag works great, no zippers jamming in sawdust like other bags. Belt tracking adjustment feature works great. It's one of those tools that you think to yourself, I wish I would have bought one years ago!

Long Lasting Tool
Professional cabinet maker here. I bought this tool about 13 years ago. I have replaced the sanding plate a couple of times. The thing keeps chugging along. Also, I have no trouble keeping this large tool balanced, even on 1 1/2" countertop edges. I am thinking about buying a new and donating my old one to the rest of the guys who don't buy their own tools.

Break or Break-In
Pulled it out of the box and smoothed up six 2x4s and six 6x6 posts for staining on an outdoor project. Virtually ran continuously for about an hour and one half. Never missed a lick and ran on edges without jumping or bobbing off. Fine tool. Only reason I couldn't give it a five star is I haven't tested its longevity which requires minimum of five years.
