Product Overview

DEWALT delivers outstanding performance with the launch of the world's first gas-free, dual-speed, cordless framing nailer. The new DCN692M1 20V MAX Cordless Lithium-Ion Framing Nailer joins DEWALT's line of 20V MAX cordless power tools with extended runtime (XR) technology and provides a gas-free option for users eliminating the need for costly gas canisters. The DCN692M1 requires minimal maintenance, and works in cold weather where gas cartridges fail. The framing nailer requires no user-applied lubrication and is engineered with a high-efficiency brushless motor for superior durability. DEWALT's brushless motor paired with the XR 20V MAX 4.0 Ah lithium-ion battery pack allows driving up to 700 nails per charge, making it ideal for heavy duty carpentry and framing professionals, such as general builders, remodelers, and installers of decks and fencing.
  • Engineered with a high-efficiency brushless motor for superior durability
  • Drives up to 700 nails per charge on a fully-charged 20V MAX Lithium-Ion 4.0 Ah battery pack
  • Dual-speed settings optimized for different nail lengths to match speed and power to drive nails consistently similar to a pneumatic nailer
  • Can be used with 30 to 34 degree clipped and round-offset head, paper tape collated nails from a variety of brands
  • Indicator lights that warn the user of a low-battery or stall, with a stall release lever that allows the user to reset the driver blade caused by a stall or jammed nail

Not Durable
I'd skip it.
Our construction crew is a big Dewalt fan; we have their planers, wormdrive circular saws, 10-amp drill, and a bunch of other Dewalt stuff. This is the first Dewalt product we didn't like.

First, it holds one clip of nails vs. two in an air nailer. That drives us crazy, because instead of just having to throw in a new clip when you start to get low, you have to run the gun out and then add a new clip. The other thing is that the magazine and driver blade are somewhat crude.

The nose on this thing is very large. Meaning it is harder to make a precise shot. Compare this to the nose of this one to, say, the Bostitch N89C-1 and you will see what I mean. We hate nails that come out of the side of a 2x4. With our Paslode nailer, it rarely happens.

Next, the depth of drive. This feature does work very well but you will be using it a lot. Flat nailing to toe nailing, change the depth. Framing to sheeting, change the depth. Pine to LVL beams, change the depth. It's ridiculous how much one has to change the depth on this, and additionally, all the nails still stick out about ¼" above the work surface.

Now to the performance of the gun itself.

This Dewalt nail gun did exactly what the other reviews, both here in the States, and especially in the UK, state. I had a few 3 inch nails to try it out in some scrap wood that I had. It would on, setting one, leave each nail about a half an inch out of the wood. I then switched it to function 2 even though it says you don't have to for a nail of that size. After I did that they stuck out about ¼ or so above the wood. I then grabbed some other scrap and a 2-½" nail and it was still sticking out of the wood on setting 1. I switched it to setting 2 and it would then with the shorter nail put it about ¼" below the surface. If you are working on a project or construction you can't be confined to use short nails or have to worry about going back afterwards to nail all the longer ones down. Needs to be more powerful. And yes, we did let the motor rev up before we drove each nail.

It won't drive any nail flush, whether it is 1 inch or 3 inch, even into soft wood. And yes, we did fiddle around with its adjustments, and we let the motor gain full speed before firing each nail, but still no joy.

This cordless was nothing more than frustration for us.

Anyway, I can see where Dewalt was going with this idea, but pneumatic is 10 times faster and efficient for all applications. Yes, it does take time to set up, you do have a hose, and the noise, and all the maintenance, but even then, it can fly. No depth adjustments. Toe nailing, sheeting, framing, engineered lumber, LVL, no problem, just go.

Great cordless nailer
I splurged on this. I do a lot of smaller renovations & have started moving to cordless nailers so I don't have to haul around a compressor & hose. I started with a Ryobi Airstrike brad nailer & narrow crown stapler (which are great by the way). After seeing the convenience of using cordless nailers first hand, I decided to splurge on the DeWalt framer. I've never used a Paslode cordless nailer before, but had heard about the gas expense, issues with cold weather, etc. I read as many reviews of this nailer as I could find, watched YouTube videos, & made an informed decision to purchase it.

I haven't done a ton of framing with it as of yet, but I have used it to install plywood on the ceiling of a closet in a rental home, install 2x blocking in a new garage, helped a friend install some Smart Siding (using the included no-mar tip) on his house, & have done a little bit of framing.

The nailer works great. I love that you can bump fire it. Today I was on a step ladder installing an attic ladder. I had to close in the hole by nailing in 2 - 54" 2x6's. It was just a matter of holding them in my place with one hand, holding down the trigger, & bang, bang, bang. Works great.

I've got a bigger project coming up framing up a press box at the softball field in town & am looking forward to putting it through the paces on that project.

Doesn't work very long
I have purchased three in the last year and we have returned all three for repair twice. I am not sure of the problem but after a few weeks of use the guns stop driving 2 inch nails. I am now boxing up two again to ship back for repair in less than a month. I would be careful purchasing this nailer for heavy use.
Great nailer, takes the place of an air nailer, dewalt has done their homework. They work so good I now own 5.

Works great. I was nailing 1 inch rough cut oak boards down to 2x8 oak joists. I was using 3in ring shank galvanized nails, and they went in all but a quarter inch! I think thats prety impresive for a cordless nailer that only runs on a battery.

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
