Wilton Tools

The company name “Wilton,” founded in 1941, was inspired by the intersection of Wilton Ave. and Wrightwood Ave. in Chicago, where the company was first located. Wilton’s first product, a machinist vise designed by Hugh Vogl, was introduced more than 70 years ago and featured a finely threaded spindle that allowed for a straight pull and even pressure; reducing unnecessary strain on the round channel vice nut. The round channel nut design also provided an enclosed cover for the spindle and nut assembly that prevented shop debris from entering the tool. Vogl’s patented design offered consistent performance and extended the life of the tool.

The Wilton commitment to quality was evident from day one. Even in the 1940’s, Vogl made sure that his machines were precisely engineered to eliminate excess wear and side twisting. By the 1950’s, Wilton had designed a series of light-duty carriage clamps, as well as a series of heavy-duty machinist clamps able to withstand greater pressures thanks to their optimal tensile strength. Soon the Wilton brand became the preferred name for industrial grade vise tools.

Today, Wilton Tools is still the trusted name in work holding equipment. Not only do they offer work holding tools such as clamps and vises but also striking tools such as sledge hammers and pein hammers, work piece positioners such as the Pow-R-Arm series and heavy-duty pipe wrenches.
