          Comments about 3520B 20-in by 34-1/2-in 1 or 3 Phase 2-Horsepower 230 Volt Lathe:

I began turning on a 1642 lathe with 1.5 hp, and wanted something a bit larger and a little more powerful. The PM3520b is the hands-down value in the 20" plus category of lathes on the market today that are set up for everything from spindles to platters and in-between. Adjustable headstock makes bowl hollowing easy vs fixed headstocks, variable speed works great and displays actual speed for quick reference and adjustment. Plenty of ballast with the cast iron and easy to add more. Lots of great options for this lathe too.
Would be nice to have a stainless ways option...but that's such a small nit, not really a huge issue if you keep ways lubricated with lubricating spray or a paste wax.
Best value around, you won't be disappointed with this machine! If you plan on nothing bigger between centers than 20"...this is the lathe to own.

                Comments about 3520B 20-in by 34-1/2-in 1 or 3 Phase 2-Horsepower 230 Volt Lathe:

I've had the 3520B for two months now and am very satisfied. The only turning I did before the Mustard Monster was years ago on a Shopsmith and more recently on a small Grizzly lathe, so I don't have a lot of experience with wood turning. I just know I enjoy doing it, and this machine gives me a lot of pleasure.

I purchased the Mustard Monster based on the reviews I read on the internet. I knew I wanted to handle larger bowl blanks, so I needed something to replace my 12 inch Grizzly. I ordered from CPO because at the time, it had by far the best deal I could find on the internet. It was going in my garage and residential liftgate service was included in the sale price.

The reviews led me to believe that assembly might be a problem for a rather small 67 year old man, but it turned out to be simple although it did take the better part of an afternoon. I'm retired and was not in any hurry. I had the shipper place the pallet crossways on my dolly with the ends hanging slightly over the sides. With a small pry bar and blocks I was able to jack up each side of the bed and headstock (I had removed the tailstock) an inch at a time until the bed was at leg height. I would move the headstock to the end of the bed I wasn't lifting. Then I supported the middle of the bed on my dolly and cut away the ends of the pallet so I could position the legs. Securing the legs was a little awkward, and probably took more time than anything else.

I really can't think of anything I would change about the way the machine operates. But once again I have limited experience with wood lathes.

Very powerful, even to get the heaviest of woods turning, after that it's smooth sailing all the way. Super easy adjustments. Built very well, definitely made to last.
