I don' t understand the poor reviews on these mowers. This mower was manufactured 2003 and it still starts first pull every time. Not bad, and very impressed since I'm a Honda man myself. This has changed my thinking on briggs and stratton motors somewhat. But its very simple....maintenance. I read one review on here that you have to tip the mower to drain the oil, not true, if you look under the deck you will find a drain plug. BRIGGS did that so as you DONT have to tip the mower.Tipping the mower simply drains most of the oil and remaining fuel back into the carburator, a whole new set of problems aftee that. Wash the mower after you use it. Keep the under side of the deck clean. Change filters and oil. Keep the suction tube clean. Just keeping it clean goes a long way. Do that and you can get a good 10 years or better outta any mower even the cheap ones. Always cheaper to buy parts than to put your old mowers In the land fill. Cmon, your grand pa did it. So can you. Quit throwin your stuff away and learn to maintain it.

Just bought this late last summer, been used maybe 10 times on a small yard, won't run well. Changed spark plug, new fuel, cleaned air filter and kept it clean. Keeps dying. On line website very little help in trouble shooting.

Bought one of these in 2010. Now, we're tough on mowers -- have a hard, clay-based lawn with tree roots and plenty of uneven turf. So we buy economy mowers knowing that we're going to replace them every few years. This model lasted three years until the pins on the blade adapter shaved off and the shaft from the engine to the blade cracked. It's a basic mower for our one-acre lawn. The one thing I don't like is that there is no oil drain plug in the Briggs & Stratton engine. You have to tip the engine to drain the oil through the fill stem. That's just inconvenient. For the price it's as good as any of the other semi-disposable models out there, and we've been through a few of them.

I bought this lawn mower in Feb 2012. Good price! I should've known the old saying "you get what you paid for".

              22SH high wheel

              By Kelly

A 6 hp engine would increase performance, Larger diameter rear wheels would improve ease of handling.

                  A:

No, the wheels do not need to be taken off of the mower to adjust for cutting.
There is a selector knob that is just inside the wheels.
