THE FACT THAT IS NOT AS NOISY AS MY OTHER ROUTERS IS A BIG PLUS. IT LIVES IN MY KREG ROUTER TABLE EQUIPED WITH ROUTER LIFT. LIFE DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER.

Power House Router

Comments about Speedmatic 3 1/4 Peak HP Five-Speed Router:
I have this rounter permanently mounted in my router table. Buy without the base for this use and save a few bucks. It has more than enough power for the largest bits and has multi-speed switch so that speed can be matched with bit type and diameter. This router never lets me down.

Comments about Speedmatic 3 1/4 Peak HP Five-Speed Router:
I bought the same one in the 80's and still use it . I accidently plugged it into 220v and saw sparks and a pop , but amazingly everything still works on it , including the speed proscessor . Only drawback on this model was the collet, which may have been upgrated on the newer models. Great router .

The Router All Others Wish They Were ...
Pros
Cons

Comments about Porter-Cable Speedmatic 3 1/4 Peak HP Five-Speed Router:
The Porter Cable 7518 is still the router by which all others are judged. Rock solid and powerful, it is the one router that router lift manufacturers design their products around, and for good reason. It's hard to beat. Access to the collet is good, and selecting among the five well-spaced speeds couldn't be easier. Adjusting the height of the fixed base is basic and simple. It is the perfect router for use in a router table: there are none better.
Now, for the down side. Even among the benchmarks there are some negatives! First and foremost, Porter Cable has a vague idea of electronic speed control. If you bog the unit down, which DOES take some effort, it has to hunt to return to the correct speed. It's definitely not quick. This is a common complaint to which Porter Cable is apparently oblivious. The lock knob on the height adjustment has to be tightened with gorilla-like strength (or a pair of Vice-Grips). Bearing life is not stellar, although they can be serviced and replaced. The thing is darned heavy.
In short, even though the 7815 isn't perfect, it's by far the best thing out there for use in router tables and for use with router lifts. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate it a solid (and admirable) seven -- and I'm a very tough critic!

I bought this Porter Cable router to replace an earlier model just like it (it must be a good router, my old one seemed to sprout legs and walk off!) In my opinion the best of the best.
