Comments about 5 in. 13 Amp Slide Switch Small Angle Grinder with Lock-On Button:
Hefty and quality built feel to the grinder. I replaced a PC 4.5" that bit the dust after 8 months. I do some hobby fiberglass, wood, and metal work.
The weight of the grinder was a surprise the first time I picked it up. Not a deal breaker, just an observation. I like the more solid feel that comes with the extra weight.
The cord appears thicker and a little longer than previous grinders. It is quieter than other grinders I have had but cuts and grinds easier -- less rpm's but a lot more torque. Thus far I have cut 3/16" and 1/4" wall - 2" square tubing and some 3" X 3" X 1/4" angle. It really didn't phase the grinder in any way -- sliced right through them.
One feature I really like is the disc "hold-down nut"-- the threaded nut that secures the disc or flap wheel to the shaft. It is much larger in thickness and diameter to previous grinders which makes it easier to hold onto when changing discs -- but better than that, it has a generous knurled edge on it that really lets me get a solid grip on it -- I haven't had to use the spanner wrench yet to loosen it.
CON: The only con I have is that the top hole for the moveable handle has been eliminated on this model. When I am grinding or cutting with the disc vertical, I like to have my hand coming out of the top of the grinder and not the sides. For horizontal work the sides are what I use mostly, but even then, if the work is at waist height or lower, often it was easier to control the grinder with the handle coming out the top. This is less of a problem if the rear-most handle rotates, as some models do -- this one does not have that feature. This would not prevent me from buying another or recommending this grinder to a friend. I would just pay more attention to the possible handle positions or get one that the back handle could rotate on.
So in my opinion, this 5" grinder beats every 4.5" grinder I have ever used or owned hands down. There really is no fair comparison to my previous grinders. Great product, very fair price, good shipping, great warranty. I am very pleased.
