      A:

METAL Mode In metal mode, the Sub-Scanner will detect both ferrous (>14 mm Ø) and non-ferrous (>16 mm Ø) metals in concrete up to a depth of 6". The Sub-Scanner can not reliably detect metal behind mate- rial of varying densities. Materials such as carpet, wire metal mesh backing, damp walls, and stucco may affect readings. Alternating surfaces, such as thick grout lines or extremely heavy plaster on drywall, may be detected or show as metal or studs. STUD Mode In Stud mode, the Sub-Scanner will detect wood or metal studs and joists behind wall board, wooden panels, plaster or other non-metallic wall materials. The Sub-Scanner can not reliably detect studs behind material of varying densities. Materials such as carpet, wire metal mesh backing, damp walls, and stucco may affect readings. Alternating surfaces, such as thick grout lines or extremely heavy plaster on drywall, may be detected or show as metal or studs.

    Q:

Would this scanner be able to detect the actual thickness of a concrete slab? I understand this product can detect things within a concrete slab but what about the thickness?

The scanner can detect rebar up to 6" in concrete. It will not inform you of the thickness of the slab.

  • M12 12V Cordless Lithium-Ion Sub-Scanner Detection Tool Kit

    Q:

what is the difference between the 2290 and 2291
Asked on 1/5/2013 by contractor from naples, Fl.

    3 answers

    • A:

The 2290 is only the scanner. The 2291 is a kit that includes the Milwaukee 2291-20 SUB-SCANNER, the M12 RED LITHIUM Battery Pack; a 30-Minute Charger; a Hard Carry Case and the owner's manual.

      A:

The difference between the 2290 and 2291 is the following:
The 2290 is a scanner detection kit. It includes the scanner, battery, charger and carrying case. The 2291 is the tool only. They are both the same item.

Answered on 1/22/2013 by Big Ken from Lawrenceville, GA
    • A:

Actually both gentlemen that previously answered this question answered incorrectly. The 2290 is the earlier (and now discontinued) version that had voltage detection. The 2291 (current model) does not have the voltage detection.
The 2291-20 would be the tool only. The 2291-21 would be the tool kit that includes the battery, charger, and case.
