Q:Does this item detect conduit and plumbing in concrete
A:METAL Mode In metal mode, the Sub-Scanner will detect both ferrous (>14 mm Ø) and non-ferrous (>16 mm Ø) metals in concrete up to a depth of 6". The Sub-Scanner can not reliably detect metal behind mate- rial of varying densities. Materials such as carpet, wire metal mesh backing, damp walls, and stucco may affect readings. Alternating surfaces, such as thick grout lines or extremely heavy plaster on drywall, may be detected or show as metal or studs. STUD Mode In Stud mode, the Sub-Scanner will detect wood or metal studs and joists behind wall board, wooden panels, plaster or other non-metallic wall materials. The Sub-Scanner can not reliably detect studs behind material of varying densities. Materials such as carpet, wire metal mesh backing, damp walls, and stucco may affect readings. Alternating surfaces, such as thick grout lines or extremely heavy plaster on drywall, may be detected or show as metal or studs.

Q:Would this scanner be able to detect the actual thickness of a concrete slab? I understand this product can detect things within a concrete slab but what about the thickness?
A:The scanner can detect rebar up to 6" in concrete. It will not inform you of the thickness of the slab.

A:The difference between the 2290 and 2291 is the following:
A:Actually both gentlemen that previously answered this question answered incorrectly. The 2290 is the earlier (and now discontinued) version that had voltage detection. The 2291 (current model) does not have the voltage detection.
