Comments about WP8-115 4-1/2-in 10,000 RPM 8.0 AMP Angle Grinder with Paddle Switch:

I'm a Surface Coal Mine Maintenance Manager,
Tools have a brutal life in the mining industry. Repairs have to be made on the spot in extreme environments. Our welders had used Dewalt, Milwaukee, and mostly Bosch angle grinders as of late. Then I bought them one of these Metabo grinders. Now, they are all wanting a Metabo. More power than even the 11 amp Bosch grinders. Smoother than the Milwaukee's. The Metabo does more work and causes less fatique than any of the others. We will probably stick with the Metabo's from now on.

Comments about WP8-115 4-1/2-in 10,000 RPM 8.0 AMP Angle Grinder with Paddle Switch:

I use this grinder to finish shape and smooth steel after welding a seam. I bought this unit as a second grinder due to the great ratings and consumer reviews. I have had problems with carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists due to using heavy vibration tools (like angle grinders) extensively. I was hoping that this grinder would provide a less intense vibration experience while using--and therefore reduce the problems with my wrists. Overall, I would say the Metabo is very slightly smoother than my Dewalt grinder of similar build. Not sure the extra cost is worth what you get. It is a great tool, no doubt. I think the best help for my carpal tunnel problems is less time with the grinder. Aside from that, using the additional handle definitely helps. And changing hand positions frequently helps too. With that in mind, I would probably opt to go with the Metabo with the stationary switch rather than the paddle switch as the paddle switch requires holding it to the on position constantly. And the lever with the paddle switch has a bit of tension to it, so holding the lever compressed also fatigues the hand muscles over time.

Chose this model because I have used other models with the power switch on top. Many of those switches wore out or got gummed up and would constantly switch off, making you hold the switch on with your thumb. And the switch was not situated where you normally held the grinder. The paddle switch model has worked great with no similar problems.

I am welder. The most common tool i use is a 4.5" grinder.Bought other brands and they just dont compare. Well built grinder.ive had other brand names when grinding in tight spaces they get locked up and burn the motors in grinders up.not this one with the clutch design i dont worry. When using this grinder at the end of the day hand doesnt feel like its been on a piant shaker all day this grinder is very smooth..just cant say enough good about it.except well worth it should have bought sooner would have saved me alot of money

The extra power of this grinder over other grinders is well worth the extra price. I spend much less time grinding, so less prep work and more welding.
