  • 6-1/2 in. Plunge Circular Saw with 55 in. Guide Rail

    Q:

Once you have made a miter cut, does this affect the splinter guard when you go back and make a 90 degree cut? In other words will the splinter guard still make splinter free flush cuts or will the splinter guard be cut at an angle making it not sit flat against the wood?

It does not affect the splinter guard after a cut.

    Q:

Will this make a straight enough cut to join two boards together without the use of a jointer. I am looking for a great seam

It makes a great cut but I don't think it would make a cut that smooth and
equal to what a jointer does. If you were to hand plane the edge down you
probably could make a great seam that way

      Hi Travis,
I have only used the Makita 6-1/2 in. plunge circular saw to cut plywood
for a cabinet/desk project. The saw is amazing and does cut extremely
nice chip free straight cuts on plywood, but I do not know if the cuts
are actually true enough to just glue together. I have not done any of
that type of joinery on this job. Hope this helps.

I would say not recommended but possible in theory. I love this saw but use it primarily for sheet goods. The cut is incredibly clean and straight but there are other factors to consider with your application. First your boards need to be wide enough for the guide to sit properly. Secondly lumber is not only crowned but usually cupped as well which will affect the performance of the guide depending on the severity. Your boards would need to be fully dressed clean with a planer to have a chance at getting a good cut. I have a jointer and planer so the track saw is not my option to accomplish this task so I have never tried

This saw makes a better cut than I can get on my table saw on large sheets
of plywood. smaller boards are still more easily cut with a table saw. I
would think you could join two boards together provided you can cut them at
a fairly even pace. A best practice would be to always user a jointer.
