Comments about 12 in. Slide Compound Miter Saw with Laser:

I find the painted surfaces stay smooth longer than the aluminum bodies ,and the blade speeds could use the extra 200rpms that the older models have,but in all a great new model,comparatively light weight very smooth cuts.dont need a joiner to make glue ups with factory blade.just can not be beat even by dewalt 918!

        Comments about 12 in. Slide Compound Miter Saw with Laser:

        I've been a trim carpenter for 28 years and have used just about every saw out there at one time or another. The only saw that you could make somewhat of a case for being better is the Kapex (The makita is better though). However, you sacrifice a lot of cutting capacity and pay an outrageous premium for that saw.

        So why did I only give it four stars? The 1216 is not flawless. Mine arrived in horrible alignment. The angle was off about 1 degree. A quick adjustment of the fence took care of that. The bevel settings were among the worst I've ever seen on a new saw. Easily off by more than 2 degrees. I dialed it in, but there is a slight issue with it. The saw is supposed to have a zero degree stop for the bevel settings. Its not very accurate. When you return the saw to zero degree, there isn't a positive placement. The best I can describe it is that it feels spongy. Its very easy to have the saw be slightly out and not realize it. Sure, if you have the time, you can keep checking it. I change bevel settings all day long and don't have the time to keep checking the accuracy. This is a very annoying problem with the saw. I have an older Makita LS1214 that has a ball bearing stop that zeros the saw out. That system was far superior to the current one.

        The above aside, the saw is excellent overall. The capacity is amazing. Being able to cut tall base in an upright position made the saw worth buying to me. Everything (other than the bevel issue) works perfectly and the cuts are smooth and dead on accurate. Lasers have always been something that I lacked trust in with mitersaws. The laser on the 1216 is perfectly aligned and very handy. Some might say that only having one laser is a negative, but its so easy to flip it back and forth from the right to the left of the blade that you don't need two lasers. The laser on the 1216 is aligned far better than the one on our older 1214.

        We have a Kapex onsite and I think the 1216 is the better overall saw. Some things about the Kapex are better, but you can't tell the difference in cuts made on one versus the other. The 1216 is easier to use and it embarrasses the Kapex when it comes to capacity. Try cutting a hunk of 12/4 oak on the Kapex and then do it on the 1216. The Kapex gets sand kicked in its faced by the 1216 in this area. I install miles and miles of 6" base every year. With the 1216 I can move much quicker than I can with the Kapex. No adjusting the bevel, just stand it up against the fence and cut. Its much easier to see what you are doing while cutting miters versus bevels on any saw. Oh, the 1216 is less then half the price of the Kapex too. The Kapex is really great for dust collection, but other than that, its just a status symbol thing. The Kapex might have the most annoying safety ever put on a miter saw too. I use my saws to make money with, not to impress my friends. The 1216 simply out performs the Kapex. The 1216 is a little on the heavy side, but that's a small price to pay for such a capable saw.

        Comments about 12 in. Slide Compound Miter Saw with Laser:

        Powerful and extremely accurate right out of the box. Good design with easy to read and reach controls. It is a bit heavy and don't know how I would like to lug it every day to a job site. Hold down vise was missing and Makita wanted the entire saw reshipped back to CPO, just for the vise. CPO bent over backwards to accomodate me in regard to this matter. CPO contacted me 3 times after contacting Makita on my behalf. CPO has the best shipping (only 2 days to receive the tool) of any company that I ever dealt with, and their customer service is second to none. A great company to deal with!

        New Vs. Reconditioned

        Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.

        • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
        • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
        • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee;
          New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
