This is replacing an old Ni-MH 12V that no longer holds a charge. I feel the Ni-MH had more power but was a lot heavier and bigger. I charged the battery overnight for the first charge and I wasn't impressed with the amount of work I got out of the unit before it died. I'll keep it because of the size and use a corded drill if I need the extra umph.
Great and easy to use tool. Also lightweight and portable. Drives screws great and easily.
Easy to use
These battery operated drills and impact drivers just get better with each new model. When I started as a union carpenter 40 years ago, my Yankee screwdriver was high tech. My first battery operated screwdriver was a 9v Makita, then went to a 18v DeWalt, then a 15.6v Panasonic and now this 12v Makita. I love it. Even after carpal tunnel surgery 13 months ago, it is no problem working all day with this tool. I can drive 1/4" lag bolts into Oak without a problem.
12v system is light yet powerful
