I think I got a dud. It has worked fine so far, but the bright flashes of electrical arcs back by the brushes are concerning. It's a good thing you guys have a 60-day return policy on reconditioned tools.

Also, the chuck has noticeable runout.

I'm sure it's a pretty awesome drill if you get one that was assembled correctly by the reconditioning people. I just noticed Tyler Tools sells a reconditioned Bosch 17618-01 for $70 less, and it's spec'ed to have more torque too.

Best bang for your buck. My last 18v Makita has outlasted two Millwaukee v28 drills. I use it everyday as an electrical contractor and i am very happy with it and will continue to use it.

I received this drill as a birthday present per my request and I couldn't have been happier. Prior to this drill I was using a 14.4v, 20 year old corded drill. Despite that, my experience with cordless drills other that aren't mine was usually frustrating due to their short battery life. I have to say that I'm extremely impressed by the battery life of this drill. I used this drill for 50 min at full blast with no degradation in power. Additionally I received an extra battery and the fast charger so there's never a problem. Albeit a little heavy, I would highly recommend this drill.

As always they make the best. My last Makita lasted 6 long and hard years before it just melted. I know that I will get many years of hard continuos use out of this drill. I have been using it every day for the last 2 weeks and have had new issues, except for the lights. Sometimes they will shine right in your eyes when under a sink or in tight spots, that's why I have electrical tape covering them. The best drill for all uses and needs.

Though now retired, I still do a lot of residential and smaller retail rewiring work, some paid and some pro bono. Almost all of it involves overhead reaches, tight spaces, fasteners in concrete, and dim light. I wanted an Li-ion HD hammer drill for its light weight, and chose the Makita mainly because its grip fits my hands. The LED lights are great, better than a cap LED or a flashlight in your mouth. The first thing I did was use it to drill holes for garage workbench anchors....zipped right through the concrete. The 3.0 AH battery so far seems to last longer than I do driving deck screws before I need a break, and recharges faster than I can run down the spare. The full warranty on the reconditioned unit offered me a way to save some money, which put the Makita in a good competitive position price-wise. I have used the "gray", "yellow", "red", and Makita brands over the years, getting good service out of most of them. This unit, though, is a great combination of features and value. The apprentices and younger journeymen like it, too, so I have to keep an eye on it! Recommended buy.
