Comments about 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw:

After 5 years, my 5740NB has experienced constant use in the field, with only one breakdown -- a defective trigger at year three. Easily replaced by the owner at minimal cost. This quiet beauty is utterly smooth, well-mannered, and produces surgically-controlled cuts. A large, light alloy base plate, replaceable brushes, and a spindle lock all make this a professional tool. Yes, it is not as powerful as its larger cousins, but it will do the job, if you don't push the tool beyond its strength. Perfect for work on older houses with 15 amp circuits, because the saw's 10.5 amps won't trip the breaker or blow the fuse. The scribed line of sight mark on the footplate could be better, but highlighting it with a fine-tipped felt pen takes care of that issue. You won't go wrong with the 5740NB.

            • With straight-edged guide

Comments about Factory Reconditioned Makita 5740NB-R 7-1/4-in Circular Saw:

I specifically bought this saw to use with a commercially available straight edge guide product. The advantages I expected were light weight and adequate power. For my primary use, that of cutting plywood with the guide, the light weight helps because I am always moving both the saw and the guide into cutting position. For my purpose, the power seems just right. One surprise, as this is my first Makita saw...I find it to be smooth running (vibration-free). Of course, as a reconditioned unit, the price couldn't be beat. I could not detect any prior use or evidence of re-working...it seems brand spanking new and perfect.
