Comments about Generac Guardian Series Air-Cooled 10kW 120/240V Single Phase Steel Residential Generator (CARB):

My house runs on propane, so the generator is hooked directly to the propane system. It has been in place about two years and works great! Have gone through several outages, and it kicked on flawlessly. The weekly test run is set at 10:30 AM (11:30 in daylight savings time) on Mondays. I checked with the local Generac agent who installed it to ask how much propane the generator uses per hour. He said (if I remember right) it uses 3 gallons an hour. I have a 500 gallon propane tank so if I ever have an extended outage, I plan to turn it on and off over time. The refrigerator and freezer will chill back down, everyone will rush to get a shower, etc. The FYI is .. I have a checkoff list to prep for vacation trips (stop the mail, etc), and I added turning the generator off to the list. Otherwise, a days-long outage could deplete my propane tank. An owner should consider how to handle such a situation. My answer was to turn it off, others might want to have friends monitor it.

Comments about Generac Guardian Series Air-Cooled 10kW 120/240V Single Phase Steel Residential Generator (CARB):

Sales person very knowledgeable. Service and installation has been very good. Two problems have occurred. When installed the battery that came with the generator was bad but new one was installed the same day. Since installation the internal clock isn't keeping time, however the installer will correct this problem. Have recommend the generator to other people in our community and several have taken my recommendation and have had them installed. Have lived at this location for 7 years and the electric has gone out 18 times in the past 3 years. A very good investment.

We installed a Guardian backup system in 2002. It has operated flawlessly for a decade. The only maintenance has been oil changes and air filters. We have replaced the starting battery twice. We are thinking of moving up to a 17 kw unit. My only regret is that a stainless steel housing was not offered as an option.

Well the only down side was the electric contractor I hired to install this generator. They made a 4 hour job into a 8 hour job (WTG). Other than that, the generator preforms like a dream. During the test they shut off my electric and within 10 secs the generator kicked in and the whole house had power up. When they turned the power back on you could hardly notice that the switch took place. It was smooth and quick unlike the electric contractor. Before you hire someone to install this, be sure to check around and ask lots of questions. Like: Do you know what your doing and get it in writing. This is the best though even though I had to put up with that part of it. Here in Alaska you have to get the cold weather package...a real must. I'm loving it.

                          • 2. Unit should be Registered and Proof of Purchase and Maintenance must be available.
                          • 3. Warranty is transferable between ownership of original installation site.
                          • 4. Warranty only applies to permanently wired and mounted units.
                          • 5. Any and all warranty repairs and/or concerns, must be performed and/or addressed by an Authorized/Certified Generac Service Dealer, or branch thereof. Repairs or diagnostics performed by individuals other than Authorized/Certified Generac Service Dealers not authorized in writing by Generac will not be covered.
                          • 6. A Generac Transfer Switch is highly recommended to be used in conjunction with the generator set. If a Non-Generac Transfer Switch is substituted for use and directly causes damage to the generator set, no warranty coverage shall apply.

Damage caused after receipt of generator is the responsibility of the owner and is not covered by this warranty. • 10. Failures due, but not limited, to normal wear and tear, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence or improper installation. As with all mechanical devices, the Generac engines need periodic part(s) service and fluid replacement to perform as designed.
