Details

Festool's DF 500 Domino Joiner Set includes two additional accessories to get more out of your joiner. These accessories are a Trim Stop, which allows you to register on thin or narrow pieces, and a Cross Stop, for repeat mortise indexing.
Joining has always been a slow, difficult process. Never again, thanks to Festool's new DOMINO joining system. The system consists of the DOMINO Joiner and prefabricated, solid beech, DOMINO tenons. The DOMINO joiner, with its revolutionary cutting method, simple indexing features and adjustable mortise sizing, makes flawless mortises every single time. The DOMINO tenon is equally as impressive - it is 100% rotation proof and far stronger than either biscuits or dowels.
Features:
  • Trim Stop provides easier registering on narrow pieces
  • Cross Stop provides easier operation for repeat mortise indexing
  • Mortise width adjustment offers easier alignment when joining panels
  • Precise depth adjustment for five different mortising depths, relative to the size of the tenon required
  • Spiral cutter rotates and oscillates for a perfect mortise every time
  • Pivoting fence creates angled mortises from 0 degrees to 90 degrees, with positive stops at 22.5 degrees, 45 degrees, and 67.5 degrees
  • 7 position stepped height stop offers versatility for different material thickness ranges for fast and easy fence height adjustment
  • Durable carbide tipped spiral bit withstands up to 14,000 joints
  • Simple and quick bit changes for less downtime
  • Integrated dust extraction means a clean work piece when finished for ready to glue mortises

Comments about DF 500 Q Domino Joiner Set in T-Loc Systainer 2:

I have used the Domino to replace biscuits throughout my furniture projects. Face frames are quick and easy. I have also used it to make mortises for slats in a mission desk. It worked great. The ability to register the mortises with respect to each other with the cross stop set and to a surface with the fence or bottom of the tool makes it quick and easy to make multiple mirror image mortises without laying out each one.

The only drawback I have seen so far is that the 5mm bit is fragile. If you plunge too quickly you can break the tip off, which I have done.

Comments about DF 500 Q Domino Joiner Set in T-Loc Systainer 2:

This is a great alternative to mortise and tenon joints for cabinet frames. The domino is much stronger than a biscuit joint. It takes some practice to learn to use it well. Keep the manual handy! I like the fact that you can choose to have some "play" in domino placement - this makes assembly of joints much easier.

Comments about DF 500 Q Domino Joiner Set in T-Loc Systainer 2:

I build furniture as a hoppy. I have 4 grand kids and when they grew out of their baby beds I built them bunk beds. My design was pretty simple, in my headboards I had 1/2 x 1" spindles, on my first bed I purchased a mortise jig and mortised every one individulally (It took a long time), I was not satisfied with the end results as the spiral bit used for mortising and the round over used for then spindles were not always the same radiuss. On my next bed I used a rabitt joint and filled the voids in between each spindle, zOK but not perfect, The next bed I purchase the festool domino tool and presto the perfect end result, easy to use, faster end result than anything else I tried, the only negative is it is a little pricy but it did give me the perfect results I was looking for.
