Festool's TS 55 REQ - A whole new standard for track saws.
The all-new TS 55 REQ is not your standard circular saw. With its accuracy and versatility, it should be compared to the most advanced table saws, miter saws, or panel saws available. Its incredible portability and unbelievable ease of use delivers a precise cutting solution like no other, equally at home in the highest-end cabinet shops as well as an onsite remodel. With the addition of micro-adjustable depth controls and a flat housing for flush-cutting against walls or adjacent surfaces, the TS 55 REQ is Festool's most advanced plunge-cut saw ever.
With the FS Guide Rail System, you'll get laser-straight, splinter-free cuts in seconds. Simply lay the Guide Rail between two points, and you have your cut line. Splinter guards on both sides of the blade ensure that you'll make zero-tearout cuts in virtually any material, improving your quality of work while significantly reducing material waste. Festool's TS 55 REQ combined with the FS Guide Rail System easily replaces large stationary equipment with an incredibly precise, handheld unit. You'll save your back, while getting more out of your expensive materials.
Features:
  • Easy-to-read dual-depth scale indicates depth settings for cuts on or off the guide rail (Self-adhearing Imperial scale included)
  • Integrated micro-adjustable depth control knob enables precise cutting action and depth
  • Streamlined splinter guard eliminates tearout on both sides of blade for smooth cuts on any material
  • Flat housing offest to 1/1-15/16-in makes perfectly parallel straight cuts to any edge for increased versatility
  • Greater beveling range of -1 degrees to 47 degree with simple detent-override and positive stops at 0 and 45 degrees
  • Redesigned riving knife emerges before the blade for easier position in existing cut lines
  • MMC electronics ensure constant speed under load to improve cut quality and performance while protecting from thermal and current overload

Awesome track saw!

Expensive but very well thought out and designed circular saw. Can breakdown sheet goods better than a table saw and with the expensive accessories it is great. Price hurts up front but a pleasure to use and expecting years of wokr out of this.

Best Uses

  • Accurate Cuts
  • Long Straight Cuts
  • Smooth Cuts

I am an amateur do-it-yourselfer who had never used a circular saw before and never even heard of a track saw before 2 weeks ago. I was planning to put down a plywood subfloor beneath an engineered wood floor so I did some research online and ran across this tool. I was a little intimidated when I received it so I read the instruction manual cover to cover (the English part). I still wasn't comfortable, so I hit YouTube for some instructional videos. This was extremely useful, more so than the manual.

When I finally used it, it was a piece of cake! I'm cutting and scoring 4x8 plywood while they're still stacked in my driveway. The track, in addition to making the cuts more precise, I believe make this saw, for me, much safer than a standard circular saw because it sits stable on and securely follows the track.

Lessons learned after only a couple of hours using this product:
1. Need 2 connectors to connect two tracks together. I didn't realize before buying it, bought only 1 and now I have to use 1 track and move it twice to cut the 8' plywood while I wait for the second connector to arrive.
2. I can connect my regular shop vac but I had to duct tape the hose while I wait for the Festool hose to arrive. You can get an adapter but I felt my shop vac hose was too short so I think the Festool hose would be good to have. Yes, I wish I could have bought the dust extractor combo which would be much nicer solution but the dust extractor price was a bit high for me.

Bottom line: Very well built, very well designed tool, that is easy to use even by an amateur such as myself and makes easy work out of cutting a stack of plywood. And by the way, this tool is so precise that I can cut a sheet of plywood through and through and not leave a mark on the sheet beneath it. How cool is that?
