Granat is a hybrid abrasive comprised of hardened aluminum oxide with a ceramic grit. This hybrid approach causes Granat to retain it's cutting edge much longer than any other abrasive. Even though Granat uses a stearated coating, it does not contain wax. Since it lacks any type of wax additive, there are not issues with water-based finishes that you may have had with other Zinc stearate abrasives.

Fast removal of an old finish!
I'm in the process of remodeling out kitchen cabinets. The cabinets are faced with oak so we decided not to replace them, just have new face-frame doors made. That we jobbed out, however, refinishing the faces of the cabinets in preparation for the new doors is up to me. I tried a few of the Festool sandpaper products like "Brilliant" and then "Rubin". I knew the "Brilliant" wouldn't work very well of old finish removal so I had some "Rubin" samples I got with my Festool sander and I tried them. They did remove the finish but at a very slow rate. I ordered this "Granat" and what a difference. I have to be careful with it because with the sander (RO 125) in rotary mode it really hogs off material. I also tried some soy-based stripper but since trying the Festool "Granat" I don't think it's going to be necessary. The project now seems to be not quite as big as it did before I tried this sandpaper. I just use it to take off the old finish and then switch to 120 grit "Brilliant" and will finish up with 150 grit "Brilliant" before staining.
