Comments about ONE Plus 18V Cordless Lithium-Ion 12 in. Straight Shaft String Trimmer (Bare Tool):

I have a large Ryobi gas unit that I use normally. I purchased this unit for times when I want to catch a small spot and don't want to get out the heavier gas unit. I was surprised at the power, but don't expect it to take the place of a bigger gas unit. The casing is just plastic and won't handle a lot of abuse. CPO ships using very little padding. The first unit arrived shattered beyond repair. They quickly replaced it; this time it arrived intact. This is the first item I have received that showed any previous use. But that was very minor and of no consequence. Thanks CPO.

LOVE not having an electric cord to drag - or the weight of the gas/motor. We have done both, and really like the battery powered weed eater.

Comments about ONE Plus 18V Cordless Lithium-Ion 12 in. Straight Shaft String Trimmer (Bare Tool):

Bought this trimmer for use at my mid-20s daughter's house. Being a dad of daughters, I am wrapped around their fingers. When my oldest bought her first home, I told her I would help with the yard. She got a mower, but no other lawn tools, so each week I would take my commercial trimmer and no more get it started and I was finished. I had a Ryobi 18 volt hedge trimmer and recently purchased a gas powered hedge trimmer. I took the 18 volt trimmer to her house, and when I saw this bare tool trimmer for a great price, I purchased it for her, but of course I use it. It uses the same batteries and does a great job trimming around her house and garage. Her yard is about 6000 square feet. Can't say that I would try it on my 3/4 acre yard. This trimmer is for yard grass only. I don't think it could handle thick weeds/grass and definitely not brush.

Comments about ONE Plus 18V Cordless Lithium-Ion 12 in. Straight Shaft String Trimmer (Bare Tool):

Hi this is an update, I had bought this unit in 2011, same battery , We had a 6000 square ft lot, the house and driveway plus shed and patio removed would be equal to about 3000 square ft. it worked fine for that home, when we bought the recent home , we jumped up to about 9000 sq ft, I thought oh no , I sold the gas weed eater, well to my suprise, it has been flawless, we even have more borders and edges to trim, I start by all the trimming, then use my gas mower, 45 minutes later, place the same battery in the blower, and even enough juice left to blow the clippings, bottom line, very happy with this small unit. and no more gas and noise , plus smell.

Can the ni-cad batteries that I have for my other ryobi tools be used with this or does it need the lithium battery?

The Ni-Cad batteries are not powerful enough for this tool. I recommend a 4AH Lithium battery for max efficiency.

NO, it is not recommended to interchange these two battery types.

          • Q:

Why do I have to remove the string cover when the string breaks to get/pull more string? I was under the impression that this trimmer was "self-feeding". I'm constantly having to stop trimming to get more line out. Very frustrating!

Interesting. I purchased this trimmer not too long ago, but mine "auto-feeds" just fine. Every once in a while, I can hear it spit the string out and the plastic round edge trims access off so it becomes perfect length.

Did you recently put a new spool of string in it yourself? did you install the spool correctly so the string isn't getting caught up inside?

Answered on 9/17/2012 by BK from Duarte, CA
            • A:

I also have one. You are correct about it being self feeding. Each time you stop the tool it should feed out about 1/4" of line when you start it again. If you break off a lot of line by hitting something you may have to stop and start it a few times to release enough line. Conversely, if you are trimming several close areas you may want to keep the tool running to prevent constantly releasing/wasting line each time you restart.
