Hi this is an update, I had bought this unit in 2011, same battery , We had a 6000 square ft lot, the house and driveway plus shed and patio removed would be equal to about 3000 square ft. it worked fine for that home, when we bought the recent home , we jumped up to about 9000 sq ft, I thought oh no , I sold the gas weed eater, well to my suprise, it has been flawless, we even have more borders and edges to trim, I start by all the trimming, then use my gas mower, 45 minutes later, place the same battery in the blower, and even enough juice left to blow the clippings, bottom line, very happy with this small unit. and no more gas and noise , plus smell.
It looks pretty good for reconditioned. Pretty heavy which may cause fatigue after long use. My One+ battery takes some jamming to get into and out of the trimmer. Overall, a great deal if it doesn't die on me!
I had on old gas trimmer, it was big and bulky and I hated using it. So much, that my sidewalk had not be edged/trimmed in over 3 years. I took this little guy out of the package and could not believe the weight difference. I could trim/edge with this all day and not get tired. It took care of my sidewalk edging/trimming just fine considering the neglect. It had enough power and only had to change the battery once, I have 140 ft sidewalk. It does help to have other Ryobi tools so that you can share the batteries. I am in love with my new Ryobi trimmer and the 18v concept in general. The gas stuff is going in the rummage sale this weekend.
Use it in place of a gas powered unit and pleased
with the battery operated trimmer.
Great substitute for my Black and Decker. Better power.

Q:Can the ni-cad batteries that I have for my other ryobi tools be used with this or does it need the lithium battery?
A:NO, it is not recommended to interchange these two battery types.
Q:Why do I have to remove the string cover when the string breaks to get/pull more string? I was under the impression that this trimmer was "self-feeding". I'm constantly having to stop trimming to get more line out. Very frustrating!
A:Interesting. I purchased this trimmer not too long ago, but mine "auto-feeds" just fine. Every once in a while, I can hear it spit the string out and the plastic round edge trims access off so it becomes perfect length.
