In 1922 Raymond E. DeWalt invented the first radial arm saw in order to increase production at the woodworking mill where he worked. The saw was so successful that Raymond DeWalt founded a company on it and in 1924, DeWalt Products Company was formed. Their first electric saw in production was called the DeWalt Wonder-Worker and functioned as a universal woodworking machine with the ability to slide, miter, bevel and be raised and lowered. From then on DeWalt continued to expand their product line to include not just saws, but a wide variety of power tools.
By 1967 DeWalt introduced their first bench grinder and in 1971, ferrous and non-ferrous metal cutting machines. By the 1990’s DeWalt launched their first line of portable and cordless power tools. Today, DeWalt offers over 250 corded and 200 cordless power tools and over 800 accessories including Lithium-Ion powered tools in 18V, 28V, 36V, 12V MAX and 20V MAX XR lines.
Innovative product features are what make DeWalt a power house in the power tool industry. Tools such as grinders, drills and hammers are designed to have more control and less vibration while still maintaining optimal performance. DeWalt’s full range of saws can meet any cutting need from the miter saw to the track saw, while metal working equipment such as nibblers and shears, grinders and cut-off machines are built to stand up against the toughest materials.
