I needed an upgrade from a 50 year old tiny craftsman table saw. I like the gear motor instead of belt driven. I had a chance to get a very large table saw but didn't want to dedicate a room to it. This one cuts big but doesn't take up much space. My first project was making a rolling table out of wood for in my shop. The folding stand is great and I will use when mobile. I checked squareness and everything was spot on. I am very happy with it.
The first one I bought had 2 defects, the arbor wobbled causing a larger kerf and one miter slot was too narrow for the gauge. The table was also not quite flate. (I think the reviewer from Aug/2012 who bought refurbished and had to chisel away the paint wound up with my reject as mine was returned as defective about 4 months earlier). The second one had a true arbor and a binding fence. A replacement fence fixed the binding but I had to shim the bearing blocks that hold the axle for the pinion gears with mylar so it did not have so much play. This is a type 6 with the newer guard and riving knife but the Type 4 floor model I looked at seemed to have a much tighter bearing block for the fence and there was no side to side play when adjusting the fence. I saw another forum post on this saw where someone felt the need to replace the pinion shaft with a stiffer one but mine works fine after shimming the cheap plastic bearing blocks. The maybe could have used a real bearing here. It's a much better saw than my old Craftsman. It seems that Dewalts quality control is not that great so you might not get a good one on the first try. I would probably buy it again, I just wish I did not have to exchange and then make my own fix the the slop in the fence.
I would without a doubt recommed product, but I would not recommend CPO. I had an issue with FEDEX delivery and had paid for guranteed shipping date. CPO collected the extra fee for shipping but said the issue is not within their concern. I will no longer do business with CPO!!
Just started using, can't give any other information at this time.
I bought this saw after reading reviews on all the entry level benchtop saws. All entry level saws had flaws and inaccurate fences and or cheap built. I figured for the price this dewalt holds more value than a ryobi and will sell faster if I ever choose this hobby is not for me. That being said I'm so glad I chose this saw, because the quality, ease of use, and price. I took the advice of buying a freud 60 tooth blade and it cuts like butter. Plastic base is kinda cheap, wish it was made of thicker material. It's not too heavy to move around and setup. overall for the DIY it's easy to setup and put away.
