Easy To Use
Fine piece of machinery
I purchased this lathe after doing much searching for a powerful, yet affordable lathe for pen making. I chose the Delta over the 'cheaper' mini's because most of them aren't expandable. The Delta runs 4000rpms with no vibration and very little sound. It is smooth, powerful, and has been engineered to last a lifetime.

12-1/2-in 5-Speed Midi Lathe by Delta
I have only used the lathe for a couple of hours so far, so it remains to be seen how it holds up in the long run. However, the machine appears well made. Nice castings. Accurate: the tailstock center lined up perfectly with the headstock center. Although the ways had slight patches of rust; they cleaned up easily with a Scotch-Brite pad. The machining on the ways is very smooth (though not ground, the banjo and tailstock slide very smoothly with no trace of hesitancy produced by the machine marks on the ways). The access to the pulleys is from the front on top and from the end on the bottom: a real plus. The access door on top is plastic: a small minus. The lathe has some features that other small lathes don't have like 24 point indexing. The HUGE label plate on the front was fortunately easy to remove. I might have been tempted to ignore it if it had been on the back.

Easy To Use
Good fit and finish
I'm bowl turning with the lathe. One has to be prudent with the initial depth of cuts. I realize the limits of lower horsepower lathes but this one seems a wee tad light on the power delivery. Soft woods will probably work just fine. This lathe should have the same horsepower motor as the model 460. Why a lower horsepower motor was put on the model 455 eludes me.

looks fine
Havent had the opportunity to use but it seems just what I wanted and I find no fault. In a word, 'copasectic'.
