Q:how do I adjust the bottom/lower blade guides?

A:On the back of the unit there is a three sided knob turn that knob one way or the other and it moves the blade in or out on the pulleys. They (top and bottom pullies) adjust in unison. Don't forget to tighten down the keeper or else the vibration will allow the three sided knob to move with vibration.
