Great customer service
I bought it after good review in a woodworking magazine. I have bought reconditioned tools before with no problems, but this saw arrived with two bent fences. I called CPO, who directed me to Bosch. The CS agent at Bosch was most understanding and promptly sent out the fences, no questions asked. I have cut 7" X 2" walnut like it was butter. I like Bosch tools, and this saw is another excellent product from them.

Reconditioned CM12
I am a professional contractor and I focus on finish carpentry. I do quite a bit of trim work and I have had a good opportunity to try this saw out over the last month or two.

I purchased a reconditioned CM12 miter from this website and I had to return it due to a warped fence that would not square up. I received the second shipment from CPO (great exchange policy, I didn't have to ship my item back until I received the new one) and this saw was square as could be right out of the box.

Other than making great cuts, this miter saw has some cool features. The extendable supports on either side of the cutting surface are very useful. I use the "briefcase" handle every day and I love it. Many other little things such as the red colored tabs that indicate locking/unlocking mechanisms make this saw pretty user-friendly. One side note is that the safety switch on the handle isn't the easiest to use.

The bosch 12 inch miter saw is a good deal for that price. I use it in my business and it makes nice and perfect cuts.

Great saw if the fence is milled square
The right fence was milled out of square and is not adjustable. The saw was quickly replaced by CPO.

Check Squareness before using
I bought the saw because it has a smaller footprint and is more portable than the heavier sliding saws. The first saw I received from CPO was damaged during shipping. Return was easy and CPO immediately sent a replacement as soon as I called.

The saw appears to be well made and solid. While the instructions clearly show how to adjust the saw for squareness before using it, I was in a hurry and made a number of cuts before I got out my square. The saw was out of square about 1/32 on a 1x6 cross cut. The adjustment is easy to correct.

The blade goes through lumber easily without too much tearout. If the cut end of the board is not going to show, the cut is fine. If the cut will show in a finished produce such as a piece of furniture, it is not too good. There will be a few tooth marks across the face of the cut due to blade vibration. Technique can reduce the tooth marks a little, but I have yet to achieve a surface free of tooth marks. As a reference, I have a blade in my table saw with a rip specific tooth profile. It will produce a noticeable smoother cross cut than the Bosch factory miter saw blade even though the table saw blade tooth profile that is not optimized for cross cutting.

I am happy with the purchase and will probably upgrade to a quality cross cut blade at some point. For my use, if I need a high quality cut on material shorter than 3 feet, I will likely use my table saw. If the cut surface is not critical and simply being square is adequate, the factory blade in the Bosch saw is fine.

Nice, but fence
Fine Woodworking did a recent review and raved about the flat table and flat fence, so my expectations were high. I have an old Dewalt that is in prefect condition, but wanted the more accurate and better dust collection of the Bosch. Here is what I found: The fence is not flat along its full left to right length. Mine has a .010" hollow on the left side near the blade and another hollow on the far right side. The fence is also not perpendicular to the table. On the left side, mine is pretty close, but the right side has a .020" gap at the top of the high point near the blade. The blade is not perpendicular to the fence as shipped, but that can be readily adjusted. I will call Tyler and see about an exchange or as others have noted getting fence parts from Bosch. Overall, it is a solid and well designed miter saw. But for woodworking (vs construction) the fence should be at .003 flatness and near dead-on perpendicular to the fence. The dust chute was also not correctly attached, and the small plastic part where the screw attaches it to the base was broken. That is a simple part swap.

I don't mind fine tuning, but flattening the fence is a machine shop job, so hopefully Tyler/Bosch will replace. I used a Starrett straightedge for the checks.

I'd recommend as a general purpose miter saw. But without resolution to the fence issues, it's not the dead-on woodworking tool I was expecting. At least not yet. If Tyler/Bosch make it right, I will post an update.

Which blade should I order to cut stainless steel trim with?
John on Jan 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Any blade that has carbide tips can be used to cut stainless steel.
How do I adjust the factory set 45 degree detents? They are about 44 degrees from the factory now. Also, when I am making 45 degree cuts it does not cut all the way through the wood. Is there an adjustment for that?
Eric on Jan 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: In the manual, on page 21 are the instructions to calibrate the miter detent system.
Here is the link to the manual.

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
