I have a corded 22" B&D hedge trimmer that handles 85% of my trimming work. I also have a pair of dwarf trees and taller hedges which I find difficult-to-impossible to "reach in" and cut with the conventional-type hedge trimmer. I needed an extended reach trimmer and I did not want to spend tons of money. I elected to purchase this cordless and unfortunately was disappointed. I was skeptical about a cordless unit and my suspicions were correct. 1). Most of my cutting in involves reaching outward horizontally. The motor and trimming blades are out at the "head" of the tool making it extremely "nose-heavy". 2.) Battery output when fully charged, is at 100% for about 7-10 minutes. A noticeable drop in power occurs and the tools ability to cut reduces. Add the reduction in power and cutting ability to the "nose-heaviness" and cuttinng becomes very tiring and lengthy. If you need a extended reach hedge trimmer to perform equal to a corded trimmer, I do not recommend this unit. Instead, would recommend a gas-powered straight shaft trimmer with a hedge trimmer attachment. I am returning this trimmer and purchasing a gas trimmer w/attachment(s). Potential buyers should be aware that this tool has limited, light-duty abilities. I feel the tool functions properly, but is not a tool to keep up with the rigors of corded. Or gas trimmers.a B&D should consider offering a corded model version with more power capabilities at a cost-conciencious price.....
Trimmer was purchased to keep up with the mid-south pampas (sic) grass, monkey grass and to maintain my 1-1/2 acre property line (small trees and shrubs on 3 sides). Worked extremely well out of the box. Did a lot more than I expected (after reading some other reviews).
Cutting shrub branches up to 3/8" diameter, cleaning cutting vines, reaches back into the under brush, etc. Average battery cycle is 20 min. Unit has been used 8 times total. Blades are sharp.
This is NOT a corded unit or a gas powered unit and will not fell trees. When used for it's advertised functions works really well (did I mention it's cordless).
This extended reach hedge trimmer provides a nice long battery life. The extended reach provides the benefit of trimming hard to reach hedges but the sacrifice is in tight spaces where you might need a standard hedge trimmer. I wish it was a few pounds lighter but, all considered, I am very happy with this product.
After receiving the estimate for mangrove trimming that was 100% higher than last year, I decided to purchase a tool that would allow me to trim them with my waders and no electrical cords in the water. The Black m& Decker 18V rechargheable battery
The Black & Decker battery pole hedge trimmer allowed me to trim my mangroves while standing in water some of the time without fear of electrical shock. It did just as good a job as my neighbor's gas powered trimmer without the problems of starting and gasing the tool. I recommend it for trimming; it will not cut heavy branches left over from previous cuttings.
