Older man cultivates medium size garden, 15' x 40'. Medium sandy soil. Can till 18'X18' in about 1-1/2 hours. That seems to be about the battery capacity too. I know I am tired and need a rest for recharge. If you're young and strong, get another battery. Don't have a truck any more to rent a larger roto tiller.
Made short work of turning over a newly established garden area. Even when it hits large clumps of soil it didn't hesitate and plowed right on through. After about thirty minutes of tilling I put the battery back on charge. Within 10 minutes it was fully charged and ready to go. Very impressed with the B&D product and would strongly recommend it to others.
Works fairly well for tilling in fertilizer and aerating the soil after being tilled with a riding mower mounted large tiller. After several rains I wanted to loosen the soil before planting. Thought this would be perfect since the soil was not that compacted. Very difficult to break this soil up even. Tiller seems to want to tip or dig in. Finally figured out to go forward you have to tip it back and force it forward to get into fresh soil. Took many passes over several days in order to get the entire small, 225 sq ft garden loosened up so that it would walk forward on it's own. Tried to expand the garden slightly and it was extremely difficult to keep it on the sod. Battery life was outstanding for the amount of tilling I did. Will be using this for weeding between rows only and investing in a decent rear tine gas tiller for fall tilling.
