We are longtime users of a reel mower, but when our lawn was diseased, parched, and patchy, a lawn specialist told us to use a mower that could be raised to 3-4 inches. We cannot do that with our reel mower, so having sod put in, we decided to give a rechargeable battery mower a shot. This Black and Decker is very close to how it's described. Simple to put together out of the box, and after the first full charge, it had power left over having mowed our entire lawn on one battery.
We may look for a matching blower/vacuum to maximize the functionality of the batteries (there are two).
The one drawback is that the clippings fill the smallish bag pretty quickly, and you have to empty it often. This is a small annoyance, however.
The plastic body may not stand up to long-term banging around, but it's great at resisting moisture. The mower starts easily, and keeps its power for as long as the battery stays charged. Generally, one pass cuts the grass evenly.
After two uses on our new sod, we like the mower very much, but are guarded about the caveats others mentioned in reviews read elsewhere--battery not holding a charge, having to charge the batteries once a month during the winter, etc. We only miss the extra exercise of using our old fashioned reel mower.
